A Child's First Book about Play Therapy by Jane Annunciata,Marc A. Nemiroff

This text is designed to answer the questions children have about therapy in words and images that four to seven year olds can understand. Topics include things children do that indicate a problem; how a child enters treatment; the therapist's office and equipment; and the activity of play therapy.

This is, simply put, one of the best books I have ever used with child clients in therapy. Whether you're doing explicitly play therapy or some combination of verbal play therapy this is a great book to help introduce kids to the concepts of therapy.

The words in this book are fairly large print and relatively simple for kids to read and understand. This gives some idea of the kids reading and comprehension abilities. It also talks about kids going to see a therapist - what the kids concerns are and what kind of things go on or are talked about. The kids I have used it with seem to like it ... no they can't take my copy home, no they can't color the big pictures in my book. They normally ask those questions ... and many more. I like it!

I love this book! Super helpful in the beginning of the therapy. It looks and reads like a regular children's book for ages 5-8. Describes all major therapy concepts and process for children in a manner they can understand. I've had clients who requested to read the book again when we were in a process of termination (books covers that too). I am definitely recommending this book to child therapists.

We purchased this book for my 3-year old who was about to start therapy and it didn't seem to have any impact. The book didn't capture the attention of my 3-year old so I guess it may be better suited for an older child. The pictures and story are dull and boring, the exact opposite of what a young child wants to see.

Great easy to read and understand book for children who are going into therapy

This is the black and white version of the book - the color version is worth spending the extra money. The discussion of topics such as confidentiality are strangely worded and may not be helpful for young children without additional explanation. However, this is probably one of the best introductions to play therapy available for younger children currently available.

I thought it was in color, it is black and white, like a coloring book. The topics on the book are awesome, but I hoped it would be a story book, not a coloring book it is not specified in the details.
The children that I work with love this book. My own children love it as well.
