What to Listen for in Mozart by Robert Harris

The essential introduction to Mozart and the pleasures of classical music in a witty, exuberant style to match Mozart's own. What to Listen For in Mozart reveals the essence of Mozart’s music as well as his tumultuous life and times, examining his achievements within the aristocratic society of the late 1700’s, a society hovering on the brink of revolution , and the details of his career and tragic death, shunned and destitute at the age of thirty-five.From the Hardcover edition.

I started reading this book while a guest in another house. I like Mozart's music- I'm no connoisseur, just a struggling pianist. The author discloses the underlying structure and Mozart's genius. The book is partly a biography depicting Mozart's enormous talent, even as a kid, as well as a detailed technical analysis of some of his pieces.

YOU REALLY BEGIN TO UNDERSTAND WHY MOZART IS GREAT

I'm only 25 % through the book but already have learned how much a composer puts into his work. Only after listening many times can we appreciate what an artist is doing. He is doing something specific with every note.

It's an interesting read, though it takes time to re-pass the text a few times, a little difficult to read up to now. I checked out a copy from my local library though I still have to finish reading it before I can write a more detailed review.
